With the Oscars getting closer and closer, celebrities are literally clambering over each other to make appearances on the red carpet. Whether it’s for a gaggle of screaming kiddies, to show off their outfits, or just to get a little publicity, we expect to see the gaggle of stars stretch their legs at more than one reception before Oscar night. And while the Academy Awards do require that every attendee have an access pass to the Dolby Theatre — the actual red carpet being fenced off — a few red carpet artists manage to make use of the exception.
Waterville Golf Club in Waterville, Maine, is a place where everyone can be a star, and people have been coming there for the past four decades because it’s so easy to get yourself among them. Their R&R Cellar is filled with photographs of acting and sports legends, and below is a time lapse video from 2010 of Charlie Chaplin, Mickey Rooney, Douglas Fairbanks and Geraldine Page teeing it up on the club’s greens.
With the Winter Olympics coming to Pyeongchang next February, Loch County High School will be represented next year by two female athletes. The highest mountain is only a 10-minute drive from Waterville, which also has its own spot on America’s 50 Best Ski Resorts and the Nordic Center of Excellence.
